Fatah Issues Stern Warning To Hamas Over Potential Execution

Two weeks ago I reported that a Hamas court in Gaza had upheld a death sentence for a Fatah member in Gaza.  Jamil Zakaria Jaber Juha, who is a former member of Fatah's Force 17, was found guilty of kidnapping and murdering Mohammad Adel Rafati in June 2007.

Fatah has now responded with a statement by Osama Qawasmi, who says that Fatah believes Hamas plans to carry out a number of executions of Fatah members and has engaged in torture of Fatah detainees, including placing prisoners in solitary confinement in rooms "smaller than a box."

Qawasmi said that "prejudice to any prisoners would mean the blowing up of the path of reconciliation and... the entrenchment of the division." Qawasmi further said that the execution would be a violation of Palestinian law and a crime against Palestinian society as a whole.
